Legendary

For the Suites Art Challenge.

This week was 'legendary', & although I thought about doing legendary Pokemon, the patron saint of martial arts, General Kwan, & yes, even the legendary first Super Saiyan in Oozaru form, I decided to take the road less traveled.

So we have Shenron, the legendary god-dragon, whose power to grant wishes must have inspired many stories on Earth.


Mini-rant here, but why is there not more fanart of Shenron, Porunga, or any of the myriad dragons in DBZ? Hello, the entire series is called DRAGONball. They're vital to the plot, acting as the deus ex machina to solve all problems faced by the protagonists, yet they quietly exist as little more than background characters. I demand more love for the Eternal Dragons! >:^U

I thoroughly enjoyed doing this, because come to think of it, I haven't drawn dragons in a long time. For me, that's a real shock. I loved doing the twisting body, & though the claws gave me grief, the limbs were fun to shade. I went for a dynamic perspective here, with the focus being on the giant lightning bolt in the center of the picture, & the coils of the dragon occupying the bottom half of the canvas. Haven't drawn clouds in a while, so those are mediocre. I'm quite happy with the glow from the Dragonballs, but I'm still unsure about how to light a figure using two light sources. Ergo, there are likely impossible shadows & highlights, because there's lightning illuminating Shenron from above, & the glow of the Dragonballs below.
