Shark Week - Helicoprion

As you may or may not know, July 31st is the beginning of Shark Week on the Discovery Channel, one of my all-time favorite television channels. Ergo, I decided to do shark art, for the very first time! I literally have never drawn sharks, seriously. <_<o This is also early, because I just couldn't wait to submit it.

Instead of doing great whites, tiger sharks, or anything common, I decided to go the unique route, because I'm a weirdo, as many of you know by now. Apparently I'm not the only weirdo on D.A. though, because there are about 116 other deviations of this guy, including an awesome plushie! Way to go, Deviant Artists!

This toothy fella here is the extinct Helicoprion Shark, known for its bizarre teeth whorl. It's theorized that they preyed on ammonites, & that spiral of fangs helped them crush the shells. If you thought you needed braces, look at this poor extinct shark, & consider yourself very, very lucky.


As you may notice, I used a different technique than I usually do. I made my rough sketch as usual, but then I blocked in the colors, & shaded/blended everything on the same layer. It's way easier in some ways than my normal meticulous technique, but challenging in others. I'm not sure how, but the ammonite ended up with more personality than the shark.

GUYS GUYS! Note me & tell me which shark I should draw next! I want input! I totally want to draw at least seven sharks for Shark week, but I'm afraid I'll run out of steam &/or ideas, so if you tell me to draw, I'll have incentive.
